Two people who are married and live in the same house are considered a couple. It may be a love marriage, an arranged marriage, or an accident that brought those two people together, and they decided to marry.
In all three of these situations, the two people who are now a married couple had different backgrounds before marriage. They lived different lifestyles, which shaped their nature. So after getting married, these two people have to live one lifestyle; one of them needs to mould.
Different Cultures Have Different Expectations
In most Eastern cultures, women are expected to mould themselves and adopt their husbands’ lifestyles, but in Western cultures, both men and women are treated equally.
If they have to run this relationship, they both have to give up on some past habits, and they both need to understand each other’s nature and accept it happily.
But Eastern culture doesn’t place much value on women. In their culture, men are supposedly superior to women. So the wife has to forget the past life that she lived before getting married and start a new life and adopt a new lifestyle.
If they want to continue their lives as husband and wife, women have to mould themselves to their husbands’ demands.
When Marriage Becomes a Source of Pain
Sometimes this works, but sometimes not.
Then, men in Eastern culture make their wives’ lives hell. And women have to go through all that mental and physical torture to survive and avoid the label of divorce.
In Western culture, if men and women have any issues in their married life, they first sit and discuss them and set conditions for each other. If those conditions don’t work, they go for a divorce, and their relationship results in a breakup.
But in Western culture, women who get divorced are not humiliated by society and are not considered bad women. People in the West understand that if a woman is divorced, that has nothing to do with her future; she is still a human being.
Why Do People Think Life Is Over After a Breakup?
Well, after a breakup in Eastern and Western cultures, sometimes men or sometimes women—in short, the person who was sacrificing for that relationship—when they realise that the relationship is over, they start thinking their life is over.
But people generally need to realise that in any culture, after a breakup, life is not over.
They are still alive.
They have to live and start their journey again.
Stop Blaming Yourself for What Went Wrong
If a person fails to read people or judge the right life partner, and that relationship results in a breakup, and that person thinks their life is ruined, stop blaming yourself.
Like Jo-Ellan Dimitrius writes in her best-selling book Reading People:
“Sometimes, we fool ourselves into believing that the person who has disappointed us will change. It’s a lot easier to change the way you think about a person than to change the way a person thinks.”
So the person who disappointed you after the breakup has already shown you who they are.
If people criticise you, why listen to them when you know that you were not meant for each other?
Instead of getting into depression, take a new start.
Accept That the Nightmare Is Over
The first thing you need to do is accept that the relationship is over.
Accept that the nightmare is over and that you are free to live your life according to your nature.
God has given you a chance to live the life that you deserve.
Do Not Let Society Define Your Worth
As mentioned earlier, in Eastern culture, women are often labelled after a divorce or breakup.
All those women need to realise that they are human beings. God has given them the right to live peacefully.
No one is allowed to steal their peace.
If some illiterate people pass nasty comments about them, women should take a stand for themselves and confidently reply to all those people.
Stop Living the Blame-Game Lifestyle
Stop living a blame-game lifestyle.
Let go of what happened and focus on the future.
Don’t let the past ruin your present and future.
The more time you spend blaming yourself or others, the less time you have to rebuild your life.
Take a New Start and Trust God’s plan.
Take a new start.
Maybe God has created those situations for a better life because God knows better.
So take a firm decision for your future and leave the rest to the Creator who created you and your problems and knows you better than anyone else.
Have Faith in God and Believe in Yourself
Have faith in God and believe in yourself too.
This challenging time will not last forever.
This, too, shall pass.
You need to be strong and take this whole situation as a challenge.
Tell life that you are not scared anymore.
You are independent.
You are strong enough to face this phase of life.
Final Thoughts
A breakup may end a relationship, but it does not end your life.
The person who left was only a chapter of your story, not the entire book.
Instead of seeing a breakup as a failure, see it as a lesson that prepares you for a better future.
Trust yourself, trust God’s plan, and remember that every ending creates space for a new beginning.
Your life is not over.
Your next chapter is waiting for you.
